Employment Perspective for Migrants and Refugees

Employment Perspective for Migrants and Refugees

A group for guidance counselors that work with migrants and refugees

New publication by EU on the topic of "Sustainable inclusion of migrants into society and labour market"

Currently, roughly 22.3 million third-country nationals were living in the European Union (4.4%25 of the total EU population). How do we ensure that migrants and refugees fully participate in economic, cultural and social life?

This report looks into the different policies, initiatives and practices related to the inclusion of migrants in European labour markets and societies. It focuses in particular on integrated approaches towards migrants’ inclusion and the EU funding available to support it.

The European VINCE project for educational professionals in HEI has developed a template containing frequently asked questions (FAQs) from refugees and migrants about living in a certain country in Europe. The HEI professionals can use the questions and answers, as appropriate, but also can customise the answer to his or her institution. The template is available in English language as well as in eight different languages in the download-section.

Andora I'm currently working on the VINCE project, which aims at overcoming the manifold barriers refugees face when entering into HEI. The focus of our project is on the validation of HEI skills and competences, applicants have acquired in their home country, but cannot be justified by official documents. The list of sources is very interesting and some of them are also relevant for our work. Thanks for sharing. 1 year ago

INTERESTING REPORT OF THE OECD (2018): Working Together for Local Integration of Migrants and Refugees, OECD Publishing, Paris.

ec.europa.eu/regional_policy/sources/docgener/stud…

"This report presents 12 key points for local, regional, national and international policy
makers and practitioners to consider as they develop and implement local migrant
integration programmes:
1. Enhance effectiveness of migrant integration policy through improved vertical coordination
and implementation at the relevant scale.
2. Seek policy coherence in addressing the multi-dimensional needs of, and
opportunities for, migrants at the local level.
3. Ensure access to, and effective use of, financial resources that are adapted to local
responsibilities for migrant integration.
4. Design integration policies that take time into account throughout migrants’
lifetimes and status evolution.
5. Create spaces where the interaction brings migrant and native-born communities
closer.
6. Build capacity and...

David Imber This is a welcome study by a respected economist. Many such studies have confirmed that polices towards refugees, while varying from place to place, have mainly failed to promote integration and employment. Indeed many - and in my opinion the UK is a shameful example - have imposed what amounts to psychological torture on some of the worlds most vulnerable people. But the study, like many others, presumes more than it illuminates. It is as easy to propose policies that would do better as it is to agree that they are desirable. But two key questions arise: one - where is the political, moral and ethical conviction to implement these policies? and two - if implemented, would they work? I cannot answer the first; but there is a wealth of evidence - none reviewed in this paper, about the second. Much of this evidence is contradictory, and there are probably more failures than successes in programmes to help disadvantaged people into work. Differences in government policies are often not... Assessment session in Italy: New Phase “European Qualifications Passport for Refugees (EQPR)”

For the first time, an assessment session of the European Qualifications Passport for Refugees (EQPR) was held in Italy, in Sardinia. From 2 to 6 July, forty-two refugees were interviewed by credentials evaluators from the national recognition centres (ENIC/NARICs) of Armenia, France, Germany, Italy and Norway and of the universities of Cagliari and Sassari.

During this assessment session, both refugees claiming higher education qualifications and refugees claiming secondary education qualifications were interviewed. The interviews took place at the premises of the University of Cagliari and the University of Sassari. Eleven EQPRs were issued as a result of the assessments held in Cagliari, the final assessment of the candidates interviewed in Sassari is still on-going.

This is the second assessment session organised in the new phase of the EQPR, which will last three years (2018-2020)...

During the first assessment session that took place in Athens from 11 to 15 June, forty-eight refugees were interviewed and forty-three EQPRs were issued. The next assessment sessions will take place in the autumn in Greece, Italy and the Netherlands. The EQPR is the only international instrument developed to facilitate the recognition of refugees’ qualifications in the absence of full documentation that could be used also if refugees move to new host countries in Europe without the need to undergo additional assessments.Read more at: https://www.coe.int/en/web/education/newsroom/-/asset_publisher/ESahKwOXlcQ2/content/assessment-session-in-italy-?inheritRedirect=falseThanks to I@[[3713:contact:Isabell Gru]]for sharing on FB.
