Introduction of Cultural Ambassadors and Project Summary
NEW INHERIT: INNOVATION 4 HERITAGE
Emphasys Centre continues into 2025 with the Creative Europe Project NEW INHERIT: Innovation 4 Heritage, After Attending the First Training with Four Local Cultural Ambassadors in Weimar, Germany
Reimagining Europe’s Heritage: Innovation, Sustainability, and Community Engagement
As we step into 2025, the Creative Europe project "NEW INHERIT: Innovation 4 Heritage" is leading an exciting cultural renaissance. With a focus on reimagining Europe’s heritage, this project is about more than preserving historic buildings—it's about transforming them into dynamic, community-driven spaces that reflect today’s needs and values.
In 2024, Emphasys Centre took part in an inspiring training event in Weimar, Germany, alongside four local cultural ambassadors. These ambassadors—passionate individuals from design, architecture, and the arts are at the heart of this transformation, breathing new life into historical sites and turning them into vibrant hubs for cultural exchange and innovation.
A New Purpose for Old Spaces
NEW INHERIT goes beyond safeguarding old buildings—it gives them new meaning. In the past year, the project launched several initiatives to adaptively reuse heritage sites, transforming unused or forgotten spaces into cultural hubs where people can gather,
collaborate, and create. These spaces are no longer relics of the past; they are active parts of the community, serving today’s needs and inspiring future generations.
At the core of this project is skill-building, particularly for young professionals. Over 30
talented designers, architects, artists, and urban planners were trained in 2024, equipping them with the entrepreneurial and digital skills needed to lead urban regeneration efforts in their own communities. This training empowers them to shape the future of Europe’s cities, blending sustainability with creativity.
Communities Leading the Way
Community involvement has been another driving force. NEW INHERIT’s hands-on workshops and Agora Cultural Labs have brought together residents and creative
professionals to co-create lively, inclusive environments. These initiatives celebrate Europe’s rich cultural heritage while fostering economic growth, job creation, and social cohesion.
Some highlights from 2024:
- 30+ young professionals received
- One major training event was held across Europe, bringing together cultural ambassadors from various countries.
- Six pilot projects were launched in Germany, Belgium, Spain, Cyprus, Italy, and Bulgaria, showcasing the potential of adaptive reuse.
Looking Ahead to 2025
The upcoming year promises even more exciting developments. A fresh group of Cultural Ambassadors will soon be selected to continue the transformation of heritage sites across Europe. These ambassadors will undergo hands-on training, with the next session taking place in Murcia, Spain.
Additionally, new Agora Cultural Labs are set to launch in several European cities. These labs will serve as creativity hubs, inviting community members, artists, and entrepreneurs to
come together, reimagining heritage spaces in innovative ways.
