Apprenticeship HUBs project aims to promote work-based learning and apprenticeship in agricultural sector and to contribute to better employment chances of students and graduates and better qualifications matching the needs of the small farms through the engagement of agricultural SMEs in apprenticeship schemes. The specific objectives of the project are: - to increase the offer of high quality apprenticeship places in agricultural and food sector by engaging small farms and small food industries in apprenticeships - to build sustainable partnerships between VET providers and employers/farmers at local and transnational level - to build capacity of VET providers and employers / farmers in organising and hosting apprenticeships - to increase transnational mobility and work placements of VET students in agriculture.
There is broad consensus in Europe that apprenticeships can be an efficient way of addressing labour market imbalances. Thus, the European Commission’s communication, Rethinking Education: Investing in skills for better socio-economic outcomes (2012) identified quality apprenticeships and other forms of work-based learning as a strategic priority. The European Commission also manages the European Alliance for Apprenticeships (EAfA).

Can they also be applied in the agrofood sector? Time will only say...
Apprenticeships in the Agriculture sector in Greece are offered by EPAS VET schools and are supervised exclusively by the Ministry of Rural Development and Food.
Apprenticeships in Vocational Training Schools (SEK) were foreseen to replace the EPAS scheme but due to low interest, they were permanently abolished.
Apphubs project aims to enhance the participation of agricultural SMEs in offering apprenticeship positions, by offering them online tools and by establishing apprenticeship HUBs in 4 EU countries.
