International Day of Zero Waste

🌍International Day of Zero Waste was instituted in December 2022 by the UN General Assembly (UNGA) to be observed annually on the 30th of March.

This day serves as a reminder of the importance of adopting zero-waste practices to protect our planet and it celebrates our commitment to a sustainable future.

It promotes sustainability, especially sustainable consumption and production patterns, to reach awareness towards zero-waste initiatives. Also, to contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set out in UN’s Agenda 2030.

As the 30th of March just passed, I want to share with you a recent action taken by the EU to reduce not only food waste, but also textile one. Just a few weeks ago, on March 20th, the EU Commission took a significant step by adopting new rules to support the circular economy.

The new rules set out are:

cut down food waste by setting higher targets by 2030

Producers to cover costs for collecting, sorting and recycling...

Just a few weeks ago, on March 20th, the EU Commission took a significant step by adopting new rules to support the circular economy. The new rules set out are: cut down food waste by setting higher targets by 2030 Producers to cover costs for collecting, sorting and recycling waste textiles 60 million tones of food waste and 12.6 million tones of textile waste generated annually in the EU Less than 1% of all textiles worldwide are recycled into new products By adopting all the above-mentioned rules, we not only address waste, but also foster GREEN SKILLS, GREEN COMPETENCES and SUSTAINABILITY. Moreover, we directly combat one of the most pressing global challenges: climate change. Be the next one to play a role in this journey towards sustainability. By being mindful of our everyday behaviors and choices, we can contribute to a greener, healthier planet for generations to come. Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek, Barack Obama.
