Migration in the EU has been rapidly growing in recent times, especially in light of the troubled political situation in the Middle East and Asia. Thus, it is of great importance to provide tools to support the integration of migrants and refugees arriving in Europe. Language learning is one of the key priorities of successful integration. Mobile applications are an effective educational source that can be specifically targeted at migrants and refugees, as a considerable percentage of them are digitally literate, own smartphones and are looking for new opportunities online in their host countries.
This project provides a gamified language-learning solution. It is available in English, Spanish, Italian, German, Swedish, Finnish and the three languages most widely spoken by refugees/migrants in the partner countries. The application shall help them to learn the local language(s). Furthermore, it will help migrants familiarise themselves with new cultural concepts in their host countries.
Designed to cater to different levels of linguistic competence, this application will also be useful for people who have already been living and working in their new home country for some time.
The material of our app is divided into several sections: Vocabulary, Phrases, Dialogs and Grammar. In each section we offer a variety of topics that users can seize in their daily lives. Even without prior knowledge, they can quickly master short sentences that are practical and useful in real-life situations.
The app includes:
- 5000 study topics, in approximately 100 categories with 4000 images and 750 phrases and expressions.
- More than 30 dialogues in each language
- Grammar practice.
- Specific cultural vocabulary.
- Selected audio material.
One of its most interesting elements is that it has 26 support languages, which facilitates learning: Albanian, Arabic, Bulgarian, Chinese, Croatian, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Hungarian, Kurdish, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Somali, Swedish, Tigrinya, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu.
