Virtual internship don't allow for the student to do things such as go to a coworkers desk when he has a question. Virtual internships are, in this regard very similar to long distance learning. Hence, the presence of written manuals such as guides are more important since, it will allow the intern to gain knowledge about the role without asking too many "beginner" questions and it will also save time for the more experienced workers in the company. Other examples of educational materials can include educational videos, where a more experienced employee films himself performing a certain task. Nevertheless many companies do not have such materials because they consider too time consuming to write large documents just for interns or to make videos for them. What do you think? Should companies who hire long distance interns prepare such educational materials?

Polyxeni Actually, I think it's a very good idea. It makes sense even in the case of traditional internships or of a new employee. It would be time consuming but I think it's worth it. 4 years ago
